Ernest Davis: Music on the Water

Ernest Davis of the North River community near Beaufort, NC explains why the menhaden fishing crews used to sing songs, called “chanteys”, while pulling in nets heavy with fish. This interview was recorded as part of the NC Humanities Council-funded project “Raising the Story of Menhaden Fishing” for the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center on Harkers Island, NC.
